Dr. Danny Giovenco (’10), Communication Studies alumnus, received the prestigious NIH Director’s Early Independence Award, a $1.25 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. While studying at TCNJ, Dr. Giovenco was also an Ambassador and a member of the Trentones a capella group. After graduating from TCNJ, he went on to get his Master of Public Health (MPH) and PhD from the Rutgers School of Public Health.
Dr. Giovenco is now an Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, one of the nation’s top schools of public health. The grant will fund one of his projects on how tobacco marketing in communities influences health disparities. He was one of only 16 scholars across the country to receive this award.
