Minor in Communication Studies

Students must take five courses for a minor in Communication Studies:

(1) COM 103: Introduction to Communication Theory
(2) COM 300+ Courses
(2) COM Courses (any level)

One of these must be the common core course (COM 103: Introduction to Communication Theory). The four remaining courses should be selected in consultation with a faculty advisor in Communication Studies. Two of the four courses taken after COM 103 is completed must be 300 level or above.

Independent studies and internships cannot be included in the minor but may be used as free electives for further credit toward graduation.

Minors in Communication Studies are not tied to any specialization. You may take courses for the minor that reflect the program of study for a specialization. However, the minor will only appear on your transcript as a “Minor in Communication Studies.”

Applying for a Communication Studies Minor

To apply for a minor in Communication Studies, you must fill out and sign a Change of Minor form, which can be found in the Communication Studies Office or online at our Forms page.  Include your unofficial PAWS transcript.

Please complete all forms in PDF format, adding any supplementary information via PDF as well.

Submit documents as noted on Forms & Information

Once you have filled out the form, please upload or email completed application in PDF file format to the Program Assistant. This can take up to a week. Once your application is approved, your form will be sent to the Office of Records and Registration so that the changes will be made in PAWS.

Please note that Minor Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Students should remember to add a minor well in advance of graduation, as per College policy.
